There is nothing worse than a beautiful Ducati with a loud Clutch 'rattle'. Some say the "rattle' comes from the Clutch Basket and Plates wearing, some say it is because the materials used are not compatable. Whatever the reason, it takes so much away from the appeal of a Ducati.
Clutch Plates will wear because they are always gripping but the OEM Clutch Basket should not wear so fast, then with the Basket wearing the Clutch Friction Plates wear faster and stick when let out, it is not so smooth...
The 'RATTLE' problem is known to most Ducati owners, so what is the solution?
In our experience from many years of racing and riding Ducati, there are three essential steps to managing Ducati Clutch noise.
SOLUTION STEP 1. Replace the OEM Steel Clutch Basket with a Hardened Alloy Clutch Basket. The MPL Clutch Basket has thicker fingers and narrower gaps between the Basket Fingers, the Alloy material is more compatable with Clutch Plates and this goes a long way to reduce wear.
- MPL HARDENED CLUTCH BASKET: With a hardened Gray coating for longer clutch plate and clutch basket life, thicker basket 'fingers' and narrower slots to reduce the 'Rattling' clutch sound, the MPL Hardened Clutch Basket goes a long way in reducing clutch plate wear and 'RATTLE'. The MPL Basket also reduces rotating mass by 700 gram thus increasing the agility of the motor. This Basket can be used with OEM Clutch centre and plates. The Ring stops the Basket 'Fingers' separating at high RPM to give better long life and performance. HARDENED CLUTCH BASKET - AUD$427.
SOLUTION STEP 2. Install a complete Mr Clutch Friction and Steel Clutch Pack. Mr Clutch Sintered Brass Clutch Plates for Ducati are a higher specification than normal, they offer exceptional wear and great drive. Larger Sintered Friction areas give longer Clutch life and better performance. The Steel backing plates are more compatable with OEM, MPL Hardened and SIGMA Hardened Clutch Baskets.
With the complete Mr Clutch Clutch Pack you get Sintered direct replacement plates; 8 friction and 10 steel Clutch pack, this is a cost effective Ducati Clutch solution...

SOLUTION STEP 3 . Maintain your Clutch Pack height correctly. When you have the new Mr Clutch pack, take measurements to establish the correct Clutch Pack Thickness for your bike (explained in Instructions) then frequently as part of your maintainence schedule, check the Clutch Pack condition and cleanliness. Then using spare Steels, re-stack the Clutch Pack to the ideal height. With these three steps, you will reduce as much as possible the Clutch Rattle.
